Maintaining Health and Wellness | Aligning Your Health With Home Care Support

Does your loved one need support with maintaining their health and wellness in later life?

At Vivant, we enable our clients to live an active, independent and wholesome lifestyle, which we’re sharing more about in our blog today:

Maintaining health and wellness in later life

Maintaining Physical Health and Wellness in Later Life

Making time for regular physical activity is incredibly important during the journey of ageing, as staying active is beneficial for both longevity and overall wellbeing.

Those who take part in regular exercise not only extend their lifespan, but also experience a higher quality of life due to fewer years of pain and/or limited mobility.

The older we become, the more vital it is for us to maintain our muscle function, in order to ensure continued autonomy.

Here at Vivant, we support our clients to continue engaging in their favourite activities, from yoga classes to scenic walks through the park.

The key to reaping the long-term benefits of regular physical activity lies in finding the motivation to keep moving our bodies, something which our professional carers can work with your loved one to develop.

Improving Sleep Hygiene for Wellbeing

Prioritising optimal sleep hygiene leads to well-rested nights and brighter days for all. Yet, many older adults struggle to attain the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep that they need.

A myriad of factors can be at play here, including illness and pain, or the side effects of certain medications. The influence of these factors can lead to irritability, depression, forgetfulness and even an increased risk of accidents.

That’s why we like to encourage our clients to maintain a regular sleep schedule, avoiding any naps later in the day and incorporating their preferred physical activity into the earlier parts of their routine.

We also find that mindfulness or meditation can have a significant positive impact upon sleep quality.

Mental Health and Wellness in Later Life

Nowadays, the importance of mental health to our overall wellbeing is an accepted principle, but it’s nevertheless something we still need to intentionally invest in.

Successfully managing the different factors that can affect our minds — mood, stress, loneliness and depression — remains vital for older adults.

It may come as no surprise to learn that a positive mindset has already been linked to improved cognitive control.

At Vivant, we pride ourselves on ensuring that your loved one lives life to the fullest. Our priority is enriching their daily experience whilst preserving their independence, all in the comfort of their own home.

Staying Social as an Older Adult

As we grow older, participating in our favourite activities becomes about more than just enjoyment — it can also contribute to better wellbeing.

Staying connected with others through hobbies, or involvement in a local community or group, can reduce feelings of isolation and increase interest in life.

With many of our clients having active social lives and the desire to maintain them, our role at Vivant is to make that possible.

Engaging with music, theatre, dance or creative writing, for example, are all wonderful pastimes in and of themselves.

For your loved one, however, they can be the key to an improved quality of life through better cognition, memory and self-esteem.
